pLOT v1.0 Released!

Today marks the release of pLOT v1.0.  pLOT is a plasmid mapping program for Windows-based PCs that I had initially been developing for my own personal use over the past year (and some change) and later decided to release for free for public use.

pLOT opens Genbank-based files and writes to a modified Genbank format (*.plt) allows users to perform a variety of tasks including:

  • Changing sequences
  • Insert sequences manually or from a library of stored sequences
  • Searching projects for DNA or amino acid sequences.
  • Add DNA or amino acid sequences to a library of known sequences for automated annotating of new projects.
  • Save custom lists of restriction enzymes and enzyme mixes to apply to new projects.
  • View annotated sequences by clicking them on the map and
    • Copy the raw DNA or translated amino acid sequence
    • Copy formatted DNA with amino acid translations
    • Directly change the color and graphic used to represent the annotation
  • Run a virtual gel
  • Much more!
*Currently, the Primer mapping is not implemented but will be soon in an upcoming update*

pLOT is and always will be a work in progress.  I work on this in my spare time and attempt to update it and add features to it when possible.  As with any other program, bugs can and do occasionally creep in.  I appreciate any feedback or bug reports.  By using this program, you agree not to hold me responsible for program crashes, loss of data, global meltdowns, etc...

* Note that you may need to set pLOT as an administrator *

Please feel free to like the pLOT Facebook Page for up-to-date information on new releases, to report bugs, or to suggest new features.
